2005/2006
This season 2005/06 saw the team competing competitively in the All Ireland Irish Colleges Rugby Union 2nd Division. In its first competitive season it was all about getting the ball rolling and getting the structure, funding and groundwork laid down for future seasons.
The NMCI were playing against colleges such as Athlone IT and the main CIT campus who have been involved and competed in Colleges rugby for years and have the structures fully in place and have big numbers of students to choose from. Taking this into account, the team performed admirably losing in games to Carlow IT and Tralee IT by only a few points while against the bigger teams the structures laid down meant that the NMCI were always going to struggle. Next year will be part of the building towards the NMCI being a force to be reckoned with in colleges’ rugby.
