Qualification:               

Master Unlimited (STCW II/2) (Master Mariner) Certificate of Competency.

Course Aim:                   

The course will prepare professional mariners for the Oral Seamanship Examination leading to the above qualification.  Additionally, the course content will prepare the student to take command of vessels trading world-wide.

Examination:                Oral Seamanship Examination held in the Marine Surveyors Office, Dublin.

Pre-requisite:               Chief Mate Unlimited (STCW II/2) Certificate of Competency.

Course Location:         National Maritime College of Ireland, Cork Institute of Technology.

Course Duration:         3 weeks.

Course Structure:        Small group lectures, 30 hours including;

  • Full Mission Simulation in Ship-handling
  • Collision Regulations
  • Magnetic and Gyro Compass
  • Shipmaster’s Business and Law
  • Advanced Meteorology and Navigation Command
  • Command Seamanship
  • Marine Engineering.                                               

Larger group lectures: 6 hours (Collision Regulations).

Course Tutors:
