Health and Safety Award Presented to NMCI Caretaker
Thursday 15 February 2007
Jimmy O’Brien, NMCI caretaker, was recently presented with the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) monthly award for his work at NMCI by Mike Davis, CEO of Catalyst Lend Lease (CLL). On presentation of the award, Mike Davis noted that Jimmy was selected for this award ‘for his consistent high standards with regard to his work, in particular, and in no small measure the very high standards he maintains with regard to the IIF policy in his maintenance work on the Sea Survival training pool’.The supplier of the pool, Europool, now regards the pool at NMCI as the best and most safely maintained on their portfolio. Safe maintenance and management of chlorination/acidity and other dosing is critical to pool safety. Jimmy's record in this regard is impeccable, as is his record keeping. On one occasion his conscientiousness resulted in avoidance of use of the pool when dosing units had overdosed chlorine. Jimmy's consistent conscientiousness, as well as the back up checking systems which he had put in place, prevented any possibility of the pool being used in this condition, and he was quickly able to recover the situation. He constantly strives through attending training and self education to become an even more knowledgeable, proficient, and most importantly a safer worker.
