The MariComp project seeks to develop the competencies of maritime lecturers across Europe. It is funded through the Leonardo da Vinci programme - the European Programme for Vocational Education and Training. The Leonardo framework promotes mobility, innovation, and quality of training through trans-national partnership.

Erik Skov Madsen, Senior Engineering Lecturer SIMAC Denmark, Mette Hundahl, Senior Lecturer, SIMAC and Project Leader, and Ian Black, Electronics Lecturer NMCI.

NMCI lecturers, Ian Black and Bill Kavanagh will be the NMCI representatives on the MariComp project which also includes institutions from Holland, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Romania, Norway, Latvia and is led by the Svendborg International Maritime Academy in Denmark

The project will focus on the professional, pedagogical, methodological and organisational competencies of lecturers in maritime education organisations across Europe. By identifying best educational practice and describing core competencies for maritime lecturers, colleges will engender European seafarers with the necessary knowledge and skills to face the challenges of the modern shipping world and give them the leading edge in the international market.
